The Center is committed to a policy of non-discrimination in employment and in the provision of all services.

The Soweto Association of Persons with Disabilities known (SAPD) is a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Number 056-165, which was registered on the 31 July 2007. The SAPD was also registered at SARS as a Public Benefit Organization (PBO) - Certificate Number 930032696 on the 31 March 2010. The association obtained a Tax Clearance Certificate in Good standing number 0700/2/2016/A000487176, on 24 October 2016 and a Certificate of Acceptability for place of Care as well as Permit for place of Care. SAPD is also a registered employer with the Department of Labour.

SAPD was managed by the Johannesburg Association for the Physically Disabled (APDJHB) which was established in 1934 (formerly known as Cripples’ Care Association. SAPD is an affiliate of the Gauteng Provincial Association for the Physically Disabled (GPAPD). SAPD was established in January 1986 and has been working independently since 2009. In April 2011, it became autonomous to be run by the Soweto community.

SAPD currently cares for 41 beneficiaries, 22 males and 19 females, all presenting with physical and mental (intellectual) disabilities. The beneficiaries travel from Soweto and surrounding areas daily either by hired Metro bus at a fee, or by public transport.
